There will be racing at Kawartha Downs this year, but it appears that it may be the last.
A two-hour meeting on Saturday between Kawartha Downs GM Orazio Valente and local horse people resulted in a decision to go ahead with this year's schedule.
Valente is concerned with the sustainability of the facility after the slots move into the city later this year.
Cavan Monaghan Mayor Scott McFadden was also at the meeting
Liberal candidate and incumbent MPP Jeff Leal says the province has committed $2 billion in funding over the next 20 years to bring stability to the horse-racing industry.
An 18 race schedule is expected to kick-off later this month.
