4/13/2018 3:39:40 PM

The official opening of the new Monaghan Court in the south end of the city was the site of an announcement of more affordable housing coming to Peterborough, the Kawarthas and beyond.

MP Maryam Monsef and MPP Jeff Leal announced a joint provincial and federal venture to spend 10.3 million dollars to create 82 affordable units, including the 11 at Monaghan Court, which was a former fire hall and is now an Indigenous housing complex, along with another 5 units locally at The Mount.

More units are being created in Lindsay, Haliburton and parts of the Ottawa Valley as part of this announcement according to Jeff Leal

Peterborough-Kawartha MP Maryam Monsef says this is a small step to eliminate an even bigger problem

Along with Indigenous people, these new units will support families, people with disabilities and seniors.
