POLICE RELEASE DETAILS SURROUNDING FRIDAY'S STANDOFF IN THE WEST END
3/12/2018 1:06:48 PM

The investigation into the theft of a taxi in Ajax last week led to a standoff in Peterborough late last week.

The Durham Regional Police Service says the taxi driver picked up three people, a man and two women, at an Ajax restaurant on Wednesday.   The trio apparently had the driver make several stops in Whitby and Oshawa, including at two police facilities. The driver made another stop at the hospital in Ajax, when he was threatened by the male with two knives to hand over his vehicle.

At around the noon hour on Friday, police in Durham Region and the Peterborough Police Emergency Response Team descended upon a home on Stenson Blvd in the west end of the city after the stolen vehicle was located.

Officials say that the suspects fled from the stolen vehicle into a home, where they held up for several hours before being arrested without incident.

Charged are:
Francis O'CONNOR, age 32 of no fixed address, with: Robbery; Weapons Dangerous; Threaten Death and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000. He was held for a bail hearing.

Faye O'CONNOR, age 62 of no fixed address and Janelle SMITH, age 26 of Stenson Boulevard in Peterborough are both charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000. They were released on a Promise to Appear.
