PARN PLANNING A TEMPORARY OVERDOSE PREVENTION SITE 3/7/2018 6:22:14 AM
A temporary overdose prevention site will soon be available in Peterborough to combat the rising opioid crisis.
The site will provide those who use opioids with a safe environment where they can use the drug under supervision of health experts to prevent an overdose which could lead to death.
Peterborough's Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Rosana Salvaterra, says the process may be complex to establish a overdose prevention site but the province is going in the proper direction.
Peterborough had the fourth highest annual rate of opioid related deaths between July 2013-June 2016 and also ranked third in the number of opioid poisoning in 2016/17 in Ontario.
