The Special Investigations Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to a crash on Highway 7 just east of the City.

According to the SIU, at around 5:30pm, an ambulance was heading east on Highway 7 towards a collision scene with lights flashing, and as a result, traffic had moved over to the shoulder to clear a path for the ambulance.

An OPP cruiser was travelling behind the ambulance headed for the same crash scene.

According to the SIU, when the ambulance passed, a vehicle pulled back out into the lane and crashed into the OPP cruiser.

As a result, a 46 year old man sustained serious injuries and was transported to PRHC, and then airlifted to Sunnybrook.

The police officer was also transported to PRHC.

Three investigators, two forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to this incident.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
