THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF CONTRABAND SEIZED DURING A RECENT SEARCH

A recent lockdown at Warkworth Prison led to a search and seizure of contraband.

Officials at the jail 622 grams of marijuana and 423 grams of tobacco were seized. Value of the seizure is nearly $70,000.

The Institution was put on lockdown on January 4th to allow staff to conduct the exceptional search to ensure the safety and security of the prison, its staff and inmates.

Now that normal operations have resumed, the Correctional Service of Canada are heightening measure to prevent contraband from getting inside the prison walls.

The CSC has set up a telephone tip line for all federal institutions so that it may receive additional information about activities
relating to security at CSC institutions.

These activities may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the
safety and security of visitors, inmates and staff members working at CSC institutions.
The toll-free number, 1-866-780-3784, helps ensure that the information shared is protected and that callers remain
anonymous.
