INQUEST ORDERED TO LOOK INTO THE DEATH OF A MAN SHOT BY PETERBOROUGH POLICE OFFICER
1/10/2018 3:32:46 PM

An inquest will be held into the death of a Peterborough man who was killed following an altercation with a Peterborough Police officer.

23 year old Cody Cole died April 5, 2015 after being shot in the head after stabbing the officer.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Cole, and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The SIU investigated the incident, and several months after determined that the officer was justified in using lethal force, given that he had only moments to react after being stabbed and felt blood pooling in his boot, and was unable to call for backup resources because police radios were down that night.

A relative of Mr Cole told Peterborough This Week in 2015 that she didn't know why the officer needed to shoot him in the head, instead of wounding him and allowing him one day to stand in front of a judge to determine his fate for being in possession of a knife.

The date and location of the inquiry has not yet been determined.
