It appears that former Peterborough MP Dean Del Mastro will be returning to jail to serve the remainder of his sentence.

In 2014, Del Mastro was found guilty of overspending on his 2008 election campaign and took steps to cover it up. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and four months house arrest and 18 months probation.

He was accused of not reporting a personal contribution of about $21,000 to his campaign to hire a firm for voter identification and Get Out The vote services.

His lawyer argued in his second appeal, that the trial judge and Summary Conviction Appeal Judge erred in their interpretation didn't properly consider whether work for Del Mastro was billed was used by the campaign, and whether the amount he was billed reflected the value of the work that was completed.

The Ontario Court of Appeal also determined that Del Mastro was properly found guilty in the original trial, and the first appeal judge made the correct decision.

Reports indicate that Del Mastro returned to jail in Lindsay following word of the verdict.
